We’re almost half way through the NFL betting season now and the New Orleans Saints have been proving a lot of people wrong. If you had done your research at the beginning of the season then you would have known that the Saints had a great team to make a push this year. With Drew Brees controlling the Saints at QB they have started out the 2009 NFL Football season with a 6-0 record after seven weeks.
The Saints have already had their bye week this year so they will be playing out the rest of the season on the field. The team currently leads the NFL with 31 TD’s and the most telling thing about that stat is that the Saints have only played six games whereas some teams have played seven games. Drew Brees has been able to pretty much throw the ball at will this year and he has hit a lot of different receivers this year for a TD which is good to see.
Last week the team talked about how they love how Brees shares the football with everyone on the offence. When the entire offence is touching the ball during the game nobody knows exactly who is going to get it. This means that week in and week out the entire Saints offence know that it could be their big day which is why they always come out to the field with tons of motivation. There really aren’t any superstars in the receiving core for Brees and personally I think his best targets are Bush and Shockey.
The WR core of Devery Henderson, Lance Moore and Marques Colston are still young and have a lot of time left to progress in the league. With a QB like Brees who shares the ball with everyone it might be a good idea to keep the young receiving core. If you added someone like Owens to a team like the Saints I think it would cause them more problems then benefit as they would end up trying to target him too much.
New Orleans is in the mediocre NFC South Division and there only competition this year in the division is the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are currently sitting at 4-2 this year so the Saints definitely have some breathing room at this point in the season, but it’s far from over. The Saints have been playing amazing football and it would be a huge surprise to not see them make the playoffs this year. It would take a massive blow-up in order for them to be overtaken in the standings by the Falcons. The rest of the division has been a disappointment this year which includes the Carolina Panthers at 2-4 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 0-7.
The past couple weeks have been a huge test for this young Saints team though, and they have passed thus far with flying colors. In week 6 of the NFL the Saints played the Giants and took care of business without the game ever really being that close. This past week the Saints played the Dolphins on the road and many people thought that this was the real trap game for the Saints. The Dolphins have always been good at home and looked good during the first half as they were leading 24-10 at half. The second half was all Saints though, and the Saints ended up walking away with a 46-34 win.
