If you don’t live in North America then you may have not heard of Major League Soccer (MLS). The MLS is a soccer league that was developed in the USA in 1993. The reason why the league was initially formed was because the USA was trying to host the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Many people in the United States didn’t even know about the MLS until 2002. In 2002 the United States made it to the quarterfinals at the World Cup and this helped the sport gain some popularity in the country.
Once the MLS started gaining popularity in 2002 many teams started building stadiums for their teams. There have been new stadiums built for many of the fifteen MLS teams and there are many new stadiums set to built in the coming few years. Over the past several years the MLS have been working tirelessly at improving the quality of players in the league. When the MLS initially formed back in 1993 the level of play wasn’t anywhere close to what it is today.
Many international soccer players have come to the MLS and it has helped the league gain an international presence. One of the biggest signings ever in the MLS was when the LA Galaxy managed to sign David Beckham to their team. After the Beckham move many other international players decided that they would also like to come over to the United States and try playing soccer here. With the increase in international soccer players wanting to play in the MLS, it has allowed other teams to form. There are three new teams set to start playing in the MLS by 2011. Below is a list of the three teams that will be entering the MLS over the next couple years.
* Philadelphia Union – 2010
* Portland Timbers – 2011
* Vancouver – 2011
As mentioned earlier there are 15 teams currently in this soccer betting league so with the 3 new additions it will help even out the conferences. This season the conferences are unbalanced as the Eastern Conference only has 7 teams whereas the Western Conference has 8 teams. Below is a list of the teams currently in the league.
Eastern Conference
* Toronto FC – New York Red Bulls – New England Revolution – Kansas City Wizards – D.C. United – Columbus Crew & Chicago Fire.
Western Conference
* Seattle Sounders FC – San Jose Earthquakes – Real Salt Lake – Los Angeles Galaxy – Houston Dynamo – FC Dallas – Colorado Rapids & C.D. Chivas USA.
If you’re interested in watching the MLS then you’ll need to live in the United States or Canada. If you live in Canada then you’ll be able to watch the Toronto FC team games and if you live in the USA you’ll be able to watch all of the broadcasted MLS games. If you want to watch the MLS and you live internationally then you’ll need to find the games streamed online. If you want to make the games more exciting then you can bet on the MLS games through an online sportsbook. Many online sportsbooks post soccer odds for the MLS so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a sportsbook to play with. One good thing about capping the MLS is that there are only 15 teams in the entire league that you need to follow.
